Feet

I’ve been looking through the photographs I took during our time in Germany for about an hour now. A minute ago, I stopped at this one, taken on the drive back. This is what you’re looking at: My son’s feet. You may be wondering why on earth I am showing you a picture of myContinue reading “Feet”

Broken, or: Not

We’re back in Scotland and to start the week, here’s a little observation I would like to share. Just a thought. I am revising my opinion on when to class a thing as broken. Or not. Here’s what happened. A couple of days ago, I sat at a table on the passenger deck of theContinue reading “Broken, or: Not”

Just in case…

My son is currently studying for his ‘Highers’, the exams at the end of fifth year in Scottish high schools. This means, that there is no more school until the end of the exam period. The pupils are expected to prepare for their tests at home and only come in on the days of exams.Continue reading “Just in case…”

Career choices…

I had a good long conversation with my son last night. I mention this, because my son is 16. Most of the time, he quite happily ignores me. Occasionally, though, we do have meaningful or plain silly chats. I like both, the meaningful and the silly, I especially like the meaningfully silly and the sillyContinue reading “Career choices…”

Tinkerbell’s Dawn

My morning so far… I walked around in a white tutu, checking if it infringed any movement. This was research. We are working on new costumes for upcoming Christmas gigs and our plan is to have a Captain Hook – Tinkerbell act up and running by the end of October. You might have guessed, thatContinue reading “Tinkerbell’s Dawn”

First day back at school

It’s the first day back at school for my son, after a long summer break, during which we all seem to have forgotten ‘How to do school’. I mean, think about it: there’s so much to consider… This morning, for example, my son pondered the really important questions of life. Here’s an example: Where’s myContinue reading “First day back at school”

Seventeen & sixteen

The sixteenth of July is a double anniversary for me. Seventeen years ago, I got married in Germany – for mere practical reasons. Ya, that’s me, always the romantic. Not. My husband’s Scottish family is a proper clan. Think big, then, think bigger. There’s quite a lot of them and you can’t just invite someContinue reading “Seventeen & sixteen”

Life peaked

Here’s what I thought, at half past eight last night: If someone listened into our conversation right now… or, worse, peeked through our kitchen window… What on earth would they make of us? Here’s the scene. My account of what happened. It will not be easy to make any of this sound plausible. Or ‘normal’,Continue reading “Life peaked”

Breakfast musings

My son is unlike me in pretty much all aspects of life. Which, of course, is a very good thing. I wouldn’t want him to think, talk and behave like a menopausal woman! Most days, he thrives in the knowledge that he has nothing, absolutely nothing, in common with his old, decrepit parents. After all:Continue reading “Breakfast musings”

Exam diet

So apparently, eating homemade croissants before his French exam did boost and improve my son’s language skills yesterday. ‘It worked a treat’. That’s at least what he said, when he came back home from school. And since he’s got his Maths exam today, he asked if we could stick with the food theme. ‘This isContinue reading “Exam diet”
